Former UT, NBA star Allan Houston to visit state Capitol

NASHVILLE (AP) — Former University of Tennessee and NBA star Allan Houston will be in Nashville on Thursday to discuss school choice with state lawmakers.

Houston is scheduled to meet with school choice supporters at the state Capitol before being recognized on the House floor.

During his visit, Houston will discuss the work of his Legacy Foundation and the impact of educational choice on disadvantaged children.

Houston played for the Volunteers from 1989 through 1993 and is their all-time leading scorer with 2,801 points. He was a product of Ballard High School in Louisville, Kentucky.

He was selected by the Detroit Pistons with the 11th overall pick in the 1993 NBA Draft and played 12 seasons in the NBA, the last nine with the New York Knicks. He currently serves as the Knicks' assistant general manager.
