NASHVILLE (AP) — Jim Henry has been chosen as chief of staff for Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam, effective Aug. 1.

Haslam announced the selection of the 70-year-old Henry on Tuesday. Henry has been serving as commissioner of the Department of Children's Services and was previously commissioner of the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

Henry replaces Mark Cate, who announced last month that he was leaving.

Henry is a Vietnam veteran and former mayor of Kingston, and he spent 12 years as a state representative, including six as minority leader.

He was previously president and chief executive officer of Omni Visions Inc., a company that serves adults with developmental disabilities and children and families in crisis.
