It just makes sense to put Levis back in for final game

Maybe Brian Callahan has already made his decision. Maybe he believes Mason Rudolph truly gives the Titans a better chance to win because he operates the offense better.

But honestly, in the season finale against Houston, Callahan should hand the reins of the offense back to Will Levis – for a couple of different reasons.

Ever since benching Levis for a terrible performance against Cincinnati, Callahan has stated that the quarterback situation is “week to week.” But both times, he has chosen Rudolph, and the results have not been better for it.

The Titans’ offense is still not operating efficiently enough to win games. The difference in the overall play at the position and the results on the scoreboard have been negligible when comparing Rudolph and Levis.

That isn’t all on them, because by all accounts, this Titans team has a roster that I’m not sure Patrick Mahomes could win with.

Second, while everyone in Nashville (and perhaps even the Titans) seems ready to throw in the towel on Levis, it is worth noting that he did go to Houston and play one of the best games of his career in outdueling C.J. Stroud head-to-head and leading the Titans to the third and, so far, last win of the season. It might be worth seeing if he can pull it off again.

And finally, maybe it’s important to see if sitting and watching Rudolph operate the offense and having the humbling of being benched has taught Levis anything. When he came back after sitting out three games with a shoulder injury, his play improved until his implosion against the Bengals.

Callahan spoke of holding people accountable and having to meet a certain standard in order to keep a starting job, and how important it is that the quarterback be held to that standard the same as other positions.

So, unless the punishment for an embarrassing game against Callahan’s old team three weeks ago is purely punitive, put Levis back in and see what happens. Rudolph is on a one-year deal. Levis is here for two more years, if the Titans want him, even as a backup.

The worst thing that could happen would be for the Titans to lose yet again, wind up with the second overall pick and be able to hit the reset button not only at quarterback but in a lot of areas for 2025.
