NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee State University and the Nashville Predators announced on Thursday a partnership that will kick off with a "$1 Million in 1 Month" fundraising campaign for scholarships at the historically black university.

The campaign will take place during the month of February, which is also Black History Month.

To help spread awareness, the Predators are hosting a TSU Night at their Saturday home game, with entertainment by TSU's Aristocrat of Bands drumline, according to an announcement on the partnership.

The Predators organization made the first donation to the campaign, according to the announcement, although the amount was undisclosed. The Predators are also providing a $100,000 in-kind donation to spread awareness of the scholarship campaign.

"Many students are not able to complete their degrees because of financial hardship, so these funds are very important," TSU President Glenda Glover said in a news release. The scholarship money will help students "stay in school, graduate and achieve their dreams."

Nashville Predators President and CEO Sean Henry said the organization is proud to partner with TSU on what he called a "life-changing education initiative."

"When you combine two great things – the education of the next generation with our passionate fan base, we know that strong goals seem to be more achievable, and that's what we are hoping to do with this campaign," Henry said.
